There is this podcast by Freakonomics whiz Stephen Dubner and in this episode about thinking like a child, it is not surprising that magicians prefer playing to adults rather than children because kids are better at figuring it out. Kids are thinking more sideways and upside down. They aren’t on auto pilot as adults are generally leading to what is the normal state of affairs in making music etc. You can tell work that is made on auto pilot from work made with consciousness. Basically the former is predictable or boring but the latter is distinguished by remaining in the present, staying connected to the sounds or the ideas or the composition.
