6 year old is singing along at the top of her lungs to a commercial cover of Stevie Wonder’s Don’t You Worry ’bout A Thing. I’m feeling kind of proud. This is the last scene of the Children’s movie Sing. Then realize I hear a lot of auto tune wrapped around the commercial singer’s vocal. Not complaining yet something about this situation gives me pause. Nowadays auto tune is considered ordinary but performance enhancing drugs are deemed unfair or untrue. I share my thoughts that this is a double standard with another musician and she gets testy about how wrong I am. Music is not a competition she says. Maybe so but still thinking that making someone who is pitchy, artificially correct, bears a resemblance to taking someone who runs great and make them artificially greater.
