A composer once told me when positioned before an instrument trying to write music you try something, then  decide to continue with that idea or else move in a different way. Each idea tried can either be done easily or with difficulty. The more you play a series of things done easily the more it will sound familiar but the more you move into areas not so easy to do the more you will feel like the finished piece was written by someone else. That was her goal, to not recognize herself.
