the marking game

Marking assignments. There is a distance between good writing and not so good writing. Probably I should mark the good writing higher than the not so good writing. Probably the people receiving lower marks will want to fight about it. It makes me think about taste and how my taste is my taste. I like this, you don’t like it, does it mean anything besides the fact that we have different taste? If I didn’t have to supply marks but only feedback, I would prefer it. Bet it would be received in the spirit of teaching more than if it comes with the judgement inherent to marks. What if everyone gets an A for the first assignment along with detailed feedback. I bet critical feedback will travel further in a markless space.
