the very top of the piano often gets selected for that reason, not for it’s pitch. it hates that because it’s all about keeping its pitch. certain people pick up on its feelings and offer something reassuring, “we know you are just like all the other notes, when we look at you we just see another note”. the very top note knows they don’t really think it’s equal to the other notes, there is fundamentally something suspicious about their need to reassure it about equity. it shared views with the blind piano tuner, who always seemed to know the truth and he replied, “there are inevitable feelings of helplessness in life, you can’t do anything about how you were born, whether you were near middle C or the top of the octave, all you can do is try to keep your pitch.” that was all the very top needed to hear.
