The last album presentation in class, where three students explore the songwriting of one album and then enlighten the rest of us in a thirty minute presentation about what they found – was I’m Your Man by Leonard Cohen. Some instances of them explaining esoteric conjectures which I found confusing but asked myself what’s the point of questioning whether people who believe Paul McCartney is a twin and the stars on the cover of Magical Mystery Tour relate to telephone numbers of funeral parlours. The point overall is whether they are demonstrating a decent inspection of the songs or not. And they are and that’s ultimately the point. Nonetheless from now on it will be hard to not think about their very different impressions than mine, next times I’m listening back.
