it is incredible how one’s reflexes take over when something sudden happens and how defensive moves enact quicker than one’s ability to think about any of it, making fun of the conscious mind for ever believing it runs the place. like when the other 60s guitarists heard Hendrix play for the first time. all our music lessons are about transferring what the conscious mind does to the body. at a certain point the body takes it over and the conscious mind just watches it do its thing like when I was driving tonight and a cyclist dressed in black, not using a light, darted out in front of my car too fast for me to think about and I should have hit him but my body understood more quickly and slammed the brakes.
