I always thought he was saying find yourself in a better what is all around you. And I thought that was a fine way to say what he wanted to say, poetic license and all. But in Get Back there’s a scene where he plays it on the piano teaching a young man how to play and it’s impressive that he wrote that style on the piano, that he engaged his left hand especially in that way so I started learning how to play it for fun. Really amazing to get it into my hands and learned he is saying help yourself to a bit of what is all around you which makes more sense. When I was a teenager working at a summer camp, the man who ran it tried to screw with me saying Lay Lady Lay was about Dylan’s dog Lady. I didn’t know what to think of that, it confused me, but Martha My Dear is about McCartney’s dog.
