the blueprint

I tried doing something starting with a motif from Chopin. I forget the name of the piece but it’s in three and starts with a beautiful seductive gesture. That’s all I wanted to imitate that thing without it being obvious. If it was recognizable then what’s the point? You just sound like the morons from Tears For Fears imitating Beatles. That isn’t the way to imitate. What you should do is take whatever is actually enlightening and twist it or edit it or turn it inside out. That’s how my thing starts now. Not the same melody, not the same rhythm, not the same key. I don’t think it is possible to recognize it unless I demonstrate what I’ve done and where I took inspiration.
