none of it

There is a young man volunteering in my office once a week. I met him while being a teaching assistant last winter for his music class. The other day he said he doesn’t know if he will stay with music or try something else but now is the time to figure that out. I thought to myself it doesn’t really work that way, you do not have to figure it out. Slowly, I remembered having the feelings he is having, the sensation of being twenty-one and how meaningless it would be to hear someone older telling me my concern is unfounded. It didn’t stop me from trying to tell him anyway. Pretty sure he heard none of it.
