Even though I had planned a section on McCarthyism for the censorship course and started rewatching films like Good Night, Good Luck and The Hollywood Ten, I found two other recent films specifically about young people in the Philippines and India employed to delete or allow various content uploaded to Facebook and Youtube etc. and I think it more immediately powerful and relatable to the students. About half the class already comes from away. I bet these films will spark wide conversations. Noam Chomsky still has the best lines. Rewatching Manufacturing Consent, he explains to angry self righteous students if they truly believe in freedom of speech it means believing in the freedom of speech they do not like.
