Reading about Dialectical thinking in advance for the next York course, an introduction to Karl Marx’s writing. I like the fact that Marx thought about everything being everything, no disagreement there. Last night played two sets with a jazz group. The songs mostly had heads and then improv sections. Careful to not step on any toes. After two guys in the audience told me I was a punk rock Thelonious Monk. They wanted to know what I listen to. They meant what do I listen to that informs how I play the piano but there is a flaw with the assumption because taking the bus, cleaning the house and even paying attention to their question – is in fact what I’m listening to that feeds whatever the pianist in me is trying to do. For some people that won’t make any sense but I bet some get it.
