I was on an airplane last year searching for a film to watch eventually settled on something about Salvador Allende but as the film started in French with English subtitles it became clear there had been a mix up indexing. \u00a0This was not about Allende but it was mesmerizing. Seemed to be about the FLQ crisis and then about Quebecois actors during expo ’67 performing in Japan. Layers and layers of symbolism and hilarity and drama. When it ended the credits came up, it was by Robert Lepage. Couldn’t believe it. The last Canadian film that killed me this much was also by him Le Confessional. The other night in Stratford my brother took me out to see Coriolanus. Killed me. In the beginning I wondered if the music for Coriolanus was live, it sounded echoey like real instruments. I couldn’t figure out where those musicians might be located and it turned out to be pre-recorded but like everything by Robert Lepage I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled off another challenge for whatever I assume can or can’t happen on stage. At the end after the actors took a bow I walked up to the guy doing the sound and light cues, asked why he wasn’t on stage too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
