At the end of Blood Simple, Frances McDormand is trapped with a murderer Viser (M. Emmet Walsh), she has not seen him but is certain he is Marty, her abusive husband but she hasn’t seen him yet. He’s inside the bathroom she’s outside. A few minutes earlier Viser murdered her lover; shot him through the window from across the street. Frances is on the other side of the door and now she has a gun. He is approaching the door with the long knife in is hand and she knows he will try to kill her. She hears his footsteps approaching but shoots randomly at the door. He falls to the floor, dying, she got him. She says from where she is crouched “I ain’t afraid of you no more Marty” and as M. Emmet Walsh lies dying under the sink he realizes she thinks he is someone else and starts to laugh the exact same way I laugh when certain musicians play because their truth makes my head explode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
