i asked a couple of my former students if they would back me up for a show one time. there was no fee offered for us to play and i appreciated one of them coming all the way from scarborough. when we finished i offered to drive them home, least i could do. scarborough said it was too far, i said it didn’t matter. turns out it was like driving to oshawa, so it goes. during the ride the two gossiped about students and teachers. it was disturbing, they addressed bullshit mind games, sexual aggression and rotten dysfunctional stories like the fact that some of the same culprits also had the position of overseer of complaints – meaning if a student wanted to make an anonymous complaint they had to deliver it to the very teacher they might be concerned about. nothing to reassure the student that the teacher didn’t inspect the complaint privately as soon as the student left the room. i think there are many systems in place, broken like that.
i passed the exam today. this might mean i find myself realizing more imaginary musical courses like How To Write A Bad Song or Capital Records vs. Das Kapitol or Name That Tune: Shostakovitch, Sun Ra & Sonic Youth. wherever i land, if students have to deal with lame systems i hope i can help keep it real, otherwise not worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
