A music student had an epiphany about what music is and what improvisation is. It freaked them out made them feel stoned when they weren’t taking any drugs, except music. They ran to their best friend to share their insight but the best friend didn’t understand their models or metaphors. So they tried to explain their realization to their teacher but the teacher’s response didn’t acknowledging their experience. In fact he tried to dismiss her new perspective unless it fit with his own philosophy of music. That night in her blog she wrote, Is this what it’s like to lose one’s mind?
