doing research for a book idea for school. looking at a disturbed lawyer I knew in another lifetime and how these current studies in improvisation for the PhD business, intersect with that (which is not as true as saying everything intersects with everything, but that’s just how it is, being the oldest student in the class). started searching his past clients and friends, due diligence, researching his personality. found a guy who did 10 years in a penitentiary, shot at a cop, 3 teardrops tattoo’d on his face. reasons to be intimidated, no? turned out swell, apologized for not knowing how to make Zoom work on the computer and more importantly loved that lawyer. gave me insight I wouldn’t have had left to my own imagination. what kid that read encyclopedia brown wouldn’t like being an adult on zoom interviewing an ex-con gathering unexpected clues? i like this part of school the most. the part i like least is people trying to prove how anti-racist they are and how non-sexist and non-homophobic. both myself and encyclopedia brown concur there’s something fishy about a person who frequently initiates reminding everyone else in the classroom what they are not. i remember this particular lawyer, who has since died, for being a compulsive liar. he was also a very unashamed racist, sexist and homophobe. i was in cars with him as a teenager where he would do despicable things and i’m ashamed i was there and didn’t know everything would be ok if i just wait forty years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
