In my dream last night, an older woman I know, was infirm in an old folks home, bedridden and I was seeing her for what we both knew would be her last 24 hours of life and I looked into her eyes and sang the World War Two song We’ll Meet Again. I have no idea why I did that because I do not believe we’ll meet again but she appreciated it, I could see it in her eyes, my mother was there too, she was sharing a room with the first woman. Since waking up I’m wondering if there is a song I’d like to hear before dying but all I can come up with is how many songs I wish not to hear while dying which probably means that that is what will happen. For instance, Mandy by Barry Manilow would really be a shitty song to die to, but then again as life itself is surreal, maybe then that’s the way to go out.
