Whether it’s the people in their company or strangers they pass, it was shocking. Only two people didn’t think something judgemental or aggressive towards her or her body. One was the skinny poor woman in the parking lot asking for change, who intently fixed her inner world on a child named Simmie, she painfully missed. The other, an old short guy who smiled when they passed. His thoughts wondered if she knew the record by John Lennon on her t-shirt. At the end of the semester she submitted her journal and later later received the committee’s criticisms. Why didn’t she supply a declarative statement that she wasn’t Indigenous if she worked with a shaman? Why did she assume the woman in the parking lot was poor? Why point out the short old guy was short and old? The weirdest remark was from her advisor, who wrote she wasn’t being the way she is. What did it mean that someone says you aren’t who you are? It can only mean they want you to be different than how you are despite the fact that you wrote what you wrote…isn’t that who you are? It seemed instead to reveal the judgemental professor’s inability to look in the mirror. At least she got a new song out of it.

When she got home from the grocery store she told the shaman it worked, she could hear what others were thinking the whole time she wore that necklace and what […]

[1

entry","author-rockbob","post-6566","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-uncategorized
["GET
