Still enjoying an exploration of All Things Must Pass 50th anniversary issue and the song Wah Wah stands out. Always thought it was an exceptional hook. George was great at infectious hooks. Wah Wah is as good a hook as Day Tripper or Satisfaction or Purple Haze in my humble opinion though I never got my head around the lyric. Did he mean wah wah as in he’s crying? I assumed so but the second sentence is “you’re giving me a wah wah” which is not an expression anybody ever used but seems implicit that he means you’re making me cry, right? But now I’m actually reading the lyrics for the first time and I it could be about his ex-wife or about the break up of his band or something else altogether but then there’s a solo demo and he sings the whole song with a guitar – through a wah wah! And I think maybe I got it all wrong and you’re giving me a wah wah means they’re making him play a wah wah pedal. And then it occurs to me isn’t it interesting wah wah is like the emotion of crying and this is the guy who wrote While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
