I saw a coyote the other night in High Park, this is the fifth time since Covid started which is when I started walking long every day often through the park and this was the best sighting ever not only because of the full moon illuminating every stoic limb in the open field near Bloor, but because I could study more details of its physique. I tried to understand the difference between a dog and a coyote because at first sight it’s easy to think this is a dog. Their shape is a little different in keeping with being wild, very little stomach, very strong upper body and an indifference to study humans though one can’t help sensing they are hyper aware of you and acting nonchalant. One knows to leave them alone unless you are a moron and there are many. I fear the coyotes days are numbered because the percentage of human morons is always expanding. They’re all over commercial radio and advertise their pictures on the subway. I heard Walk On The Wild Side when I was eleven. It might have only been one time but the memory of it freaked me out. I found out about Lou Reed and the title of that song three years later. It was that vivid, I could describe it’s spookiness three years later to Carol Hutchinson sitting next to me in Mrs. Tanner’s English class and who fortunately knew it and supplied me the title. There was no other music I ever heard as interesting. Now, for a long time I never encounter the shock of discovery from any commercial airwaves.
