In Lloyd Price’s book he writes often on the erasure of Blackness, that people of African descent have often been eliminated re: how the school systems teach history. One of the people he mentioned I never heard of, Otis Blackwell. I never seriously studied Elvis Presley but I also never heard this story before. Price wrote that Elvis Presley had songs written for him by Otis Blackwell and imitated Blackwell’s voice best he could. Then I looked him up and listened and it’s intense. I also liked reading that Blackwell was superstitious and went out of his way to never meet Elvis in person, didn’t want to screw around with the magic surrounding the conditions of successfully writing million sellers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
