The thing about playing music, especially composing or improvising, is it nurtures the interruption of thought. Not such a simple thing to do. Ordinarily, thought is talking to itself, addressing what should be done, what should have been done, what is wished for, what it’s pisses off about. And all these inner dialogue manifestations dissolve as musicality focuses on juggling and whether it can add one more ball.
