One time in a book about Berlin at the end of world war two, I read that despite the fact the war was essentially over and the Russians moving in fast, that obliteration and destruction was everywhere, that Germans who gave up, who might have created some type of white flag, ran the risk of being apprehended by other citizens who were still fanatical Nazis that would hang them on the spot for betraying their allegiance to Hitler. A whole other layer of madness. I don’t think that aspect of human behavior is distinct to that moment in WW2. At any given time there’s an abundance of madness comprising every society throughout all time whether sacrificing a young virgin to ensure next season’s harvest or the #1 hit by the same artist on high rotation again that sounds like it was made by a machine that triggers loops and samples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
