I have many papers to mark. I don’t mind. It’s part of the deal as a PhD student, I mark papers in addition to my own coursework, then I get dental or optometry benefits etc. for the family, fair enough. I’ve done this so far in four other courses but this is the best one because I like this teacher most. He reacts to problems from the point of view that he himself might benefit from trying to figure out what’s going on for the student. He doesn’t need to mock or scream about the errors of the students. It isn’t the usual I’ve encountered but it should be. There’s a stance some people have when I’m teaching piano, a stance of self protection, stemming no doubt from wherever they come from and whatever they’ve learned about the world. It can keep them quiet when I’m hoping they were vocal, but one has to remember forcing it probably kills it, or at least doesn’t pay off as much as them deciding for themselves that it’s ok to speak up or it’s ok for them to try. Them realizing for themselves the teacher won’t hurt them if they do it incorrectly, is the first lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
