Later this week I interview Coleman Hughes for the academic publication connected to where I’m studying in Guelph. Over these last months I am regularly agape tuning in online to Glenn Loury and John McWhorter’s conversations about academia (and the world). The algorithm started returning Coleman Hughes to my Youtube page. Eventually, I read the blurb he was a philosophy student at Columbia. I didn’t care about that but then I took a look and it turns out he’s also just as interesting as those other academics. I later caught wind of the fact he is a musician but again, I didn’t care I was more interested in the social commentary and assumed he couldn’t also have something powerful happening musically. Life is best when I’m completely wrong. When I played Blasphemy (his current video\/ single) it was as amazing as the first time playing The College Dropout by Kanye West, which I never ever expected to be blow away by, which did quite expertly. So now looking forward to finding out about his musical process and collecting ideas about his work and improvisation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
