There were musicians and audiences who felt shocked and betrayed when so and so did such and such because previously they were a certain way and this new information seemed to their usual crowd, radical or scandalous. On the other hand, others were tickled and fascinated with their apparent new direction. Lines were drawn and those on both sides dedicated themselves to differing opinions while time ate away and eventually it didn’t mean anything any longer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
People growing up later were surprised there ever was a scandal, surprised anyone thought any of it meant anything at all and yet then and there, people asserted how right or wrong so and so was, completely oblivious that there could be a bigger picture, which perhaps like a chemical reaction, crystalized over months or years. At the recent party there was a lot of upset over Chappelle’s last special, over Woody Allen’s marriage, over the trucker’s convoy, over Joni Mitchell working with Mingus, over Dylan going electric (and later Christian), over Lennon saying they were bigger than Jesus, over Stravinsky, over Stockhausen, over the Sex Pistols, over Loretta Lynn, over 2 live crew, over NWA, over Kanye and the ghost of Graham Chapman opens the window shutters and says, “Listen, you’ve got it all wrong, you’re all individuals” and the assembled answer in unison, “Yes, we’re all individuals.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
