The first time I played Robert’s Creek was amazing thanks to Jamie Elder. He set it all up and even had a restaurant where he named different juices after people, including me. I was between the Svend Robinson and the Terry Fox. People ask what was in it, I do not remember but it is one of the three high points of my career. The others kissed by Odetta and head butted by Wesley Willis. None of us ever heard of Robert’s Creek which is on the highway after Gibsons. I don’t think we heard of Gibsons either. We took a ferry and upon arriving drove onto the highway and saw the first of four large hand drawn signs of personal messages, “this way Bob” and an arrow. The show was upstairs at the curling rink. Where else could it be? Jamie wrote me a couple years before. He liked my second record and asked if I might play Robert’s Creek. He posed the question as if probably it was not possible, thus guaranteeing me doing it. Probably that was 1994. We did five more and he later moved to Osoyoos and started a skate shop. Never heard of Osoyoos either but have been since. British Columbia is such an unexpected ineffable place.
