While listening to solo Otis Spann I tried to figure out how to play instrumental blues, something I already do a lot of. Tried imagining Otis Spann having the same problems I have and it felt like the right way to solve the puzzle. It is easy to forget everyone even the people you most admire, are experiencing similar things. Saw a poem recently that started “I am them and they are me.” Sounds like I am the Walrus but the more I thought about it the more it made sense. One’s sense of their significance is how every single person moves through the world.
