It was a combination of art galleries or going to court. I saw the big Dali in Fredericton, Joe Fafard’s latest cows in Victoria and coolest shit in the world by Gathie Falk in Vancouver. Also viewed people sentenced to jail or fines in Edmonton, Regina and Halifax. It was free and fascinating going to court. I thought about the events which were long over, judged only now in final form, months after the fact. That is how it is. Is it justice? It is the best we can do. My PhD situation has something similar because I am explaining improvisation using words and words are soundmaps or placeholders, just descriptions and descriptions are never the thing. You can tell everyone what it was like to go to Greece but they won’t understand until they walk around Athens. Meanwhile it is the best we can do, talk, show pictures, hope they get it even though this isn’t really being in Greece. I watched an amazing tutorial today translating jazz harmony from any melody. Exactly the hobby I am trying to cultivate. The craziest part when the instructor goes off on long explanations, this is what we call modal modulation and we’re borrowing from the parallel minor and this is what we call a backdoor dominant and we’re approaching a one chord with a dominant chord a whole step below and instead of the two we will substitute a 5 to 1 relationship as a tactic to instill tension and release. It is better for me just listening and watching though I appreciate what he is trying to do but it also makes me laugh. It becomes so confusing linguistically to follow. I have to make better friends with morse code. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Years ago, touring in Blue Rodeo often in different cities and what to do in the afternoon with so much time on my hands before the show.
