The poetry reading was interesting. I read from my book. Charlie remembers our first conversation from 35 years ago about W.P. Kinsella. Impressive memory. He even remembers we were not at This Ain’t The Rosedale Library but The Horseshoe. Shoeless Joe destroyed me. John Oswald also showed up and for reasons I don’t know, recently made a version of an old song of mine in his Plunderphonics style. I am eager to make it public. He isolated my voice or at least I suspect he did because it is sped up but how could he isolate something married to other instruments? I did not know either of the poets but their work was fun and makes me want to do more of this. I ended with a piece from my book about Gord Downie which originally was about the Polaris Prize judges being critical of him after he died and then it ends with me reprinting one of Gord’s poems but I did it in reverse tonight. I read Gord’s poem first and then my piece because it made better sense, played with the mind of the listener to better results as far as I can tell. It amazes me how often, upon rereading what I wrote or relistening to a song I’m writing, that playing the last part first sometimes makes the thing much more powerful and stimulating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
