He finished with the Sounds of Silence, it was the third encore. Between the first and second set he put on a baseball cap, wondered why. The first set was the impressionistic pieces, his recent work. I wanted to be the musical director and yell. I thought the classical players could have been used better for their power. Their sections were limited to minimal gestures and hardly very much. His voice didn’t hit all the notes but if your 85 years old who cares. I heard he lost a lot of hearing in one ear which must be torturous and frustrating. Edie sung a couple times but he should have built her into the whole set. She has a beautiful way on stage and singing\/ improvising. His show would benefit from it but no one asked my advice. Sheesh. They should have asked me about Carney, Singh and Poilievre too, but nope. I stayed at Paul Simon’s 35 years ago when Edie flew me there to write songs. Later we made a record here, practicing next to the Bamboo. It was never was released. Heartbreaking – but maybe after tonight those fires could rekindle, who knows. St. Judy’s Comet was the part I liked most. I wish I had felt more secure 35 years ago to tell him how much the Kodachrome record meant when I was in high school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Fun going to Massey Hall, Paul Simon’s two sets.
