When I started, we were zero women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DAUGHTER:<\/strong><br>It\u2019s ridiculous. They say, \u201cWe booked whoever fit the vibe.\u201d The vibe apparently has a beard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOTHER:<\/strong><br>They\u2019ll tell you it\u2019s \u201cmarket reality.\u201d Same thing they told me when they paid the drummer twice as much because \u201che had kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DAUGHTER:<\/strong><br>What did you do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOTHER:<\/strong><br>I asked if his kids were playing the gig too. They didn\u2019t laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DAUGHTER:<\/strong><br>You stayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOTHER:<\/strong><br>Of course. Leaving would have made them right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DAUGHTER:<\/strong><br>So what do I do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOTHER:<\/strong><br>Play louder.
