Before music was written down and locked in filing cabinets, it lived in the body. It came out of throats, hands, kitchens, bars, wherever people were trying to survive. Before it was taught in climate-controlled rooms, it was passed around learned by leaning close and paying attention. And before anyone tried to polish it into something respectable, it was necessary in the same way water is necessary when you\u2019ve been out too long in the desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The page was never the music. It was a road map folded in a glove compartment, coffee-stained and missing corners.
