The yoga mat unrolled on the floor, evidence from a crime scene involving optimism. Begin anyway. Fingers march up and down  while tendons complain to the central nervous system. Breath in. Breath out. Stretch hamstrings. Straighten spine. Attempt to negotiate peace treaties &#8216;tween gravity and vanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintenance for a frightened mammal. Scales humiliating, expose every wobble in the machinery. The yoga poses are worse. Around minute twelve, body issues political statements against you.  And still you continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again.<br>Again.<br>Again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strange things happen inside repetition. The fingers stop obeying panic. The breath stops behaving like hostage situation. A scale begins sounding less like technical obligation and more weather moving across a prairie. Spine slightly lengthens. Mind briefly shuts up. Miraculous. For one dangerous moment the possibility that mastery is just a long awkward friendship between the body and whatever keeps trying to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the left hand misses entirely. Shoulder spasms. Dog barks. Civilization resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, next morning, somewhere beneath repetitive muscular propaganda, there are flashes. The instrument and the body stop resisting reality simultaneously.
