Death. Salvation. Sex. Loneliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other singers tried<br>to reach the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judee Sill seemed more interested<br>in discovering who tuned them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then she disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The terrible ordinary business<br>of being gifted, wounded, alive, then not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The records remained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quiet little machines<br>asking big questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put one on and her voice enters the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She sings about heaven<br>like someone who checked the map<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but isn&#8217;t entirely sure<br>the road is open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then comes another chord,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>stranger than the one before it,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and you understand<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judee Sill was trying<br>to find the hidden harmony<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that proved<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>there had been another world<br>inside it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the entire time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Judee Sill put Jesusin the passenger seat beside desire, heroin, Bach,and whoever hadn&#8217;t called back.
