In 2011 Mimi Ursa applied for an Ontario Arts Council grant and was turned down then decided she would make the record anyway. She had one story in particular that hooked me into her life and songs. The story went something like this. When she was 21 she went to Mexico, fell in love and later found out her boyfriend was a sociopath who stole from her.
Mimi is kind of like Muhammed Ali in the 60’s; not wise to stand in her way. I was inspired by her determination to make the record even if she didn’t have the grant. She’s sent the finished cd round to many music business wheelers & dealers but so far no bites. They don’t yet realize who they are dealing with.
