switching sides

There is a brain thing I do at the piano which is when I realize my eyes are largely on the left hand or the right hand I try to switch it. Whatever was previously comfortable or not requiring much thinking get’s tossed out the window when I switch my gaze. It’s like suddenly being thrown into a country where people drive on the opposite side of the road. The most interesting part is that if I return to the first view, the body already knows it’s role, the piece plays without struggle. I could play the first way and probably at the same time do mathematic calculations but if I change my gaze I lose my balance. I’m not sure if the thing that throws me is seeing new information or the distracting thoughts that result from taking in new information.
