Was talking with someone about Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty then re-explored it online. Didn’t realize that the opening swell is a synthesizer not a guitar but more interesting was noticing for the first time the percussion. Funny how often in recordings that stays with me and I don’t necessarily recognize the subtle magic of percussion until many listens later – to have both someone on kit and percussion. When I have a recording project I love including a talented percussionist. Sometimes they start to list all their exotic stuff or self made chick pea contraptions, they pronounce strange words and I cut them off. I know nothing about any of it – just come and improvise. Interview with Rachel Cusk about her trilogy she explained there was no plot because life has no plot. I’m with Rachel.
