Lloyd Price

Finished reading Lloyd Price’s autobiography Sumdumhonky. His accounts on the state of the world were very amazing whether living in America or Africa, establishing Little Richard or rescuing his parents, creating lower income housing or promoting Muhammad Ali, being ripped off by music business people or unflinchingly telling it like it is about visiting Nigeria vs. his fantasy of seeing Africa. One thing I avoid in this songwriting course is the music of the 50s, which is a delicious pleasure for me but also an acquired taste. Haven’t thought through how to make it compelling for the students but this book has so many awesome stories, it might be the way in.

  1. Was not particularly attentive to the music of the 50’s until I started listening to Danny Finkleman; music of the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. what a joy. Was mostly all new to me.

    1. I used to listen to him too, until I heard him speak insensitively about people who are poor. He sure sounded pretty rotten and
I didn’t listen to him anymore.

      1. Didn’t know that. Which brings up a recurring question of mine of the art vs the artist.
