Just finished Chuck Palahniuk’s book about writing – Moments in My Life After Which Everything was Different. He knocks it out of the ballpark. It was a perfect sunset or a perfect piece of music, a bunch of magic beans is what it was, recommended. I might reframe some of it because my lyrics course essentially is a creative writing course. At the train station picked up my niece to take her to the Thanksgiving doo. She tells me how her first year University is going. One teacher let her down by grabbing material off YouTube in front of the class. Pretty clear it was chosen at random and unfocussed. The video only partially was related to the subject. Otherwise, off on tangents unnecessarily diluting the focus. It was a good observation. I have been as dumb as that, especially when I started and I don’t doubt some teachers are same. I prefer to be prepared now. Wonder almost every week if I can change it up further, if better ideas present themselves. If I am doing a show I want it to kill. Same stakes in teaching a class.
