Nice to listen to Gloria Blizzard talk about her writing and see her framed by the crowd like an old sage. Maybe she is. Anytime I’m in her company I return a bit for to Fat Albert’s open stage in the basement of Bloor United Church in 1980 something, where we first met. I could tell that moment then and there we were kindred spirits and she understood the value of a place like this in a time like that. I didn’t buy her book yet, probably later when I am finished all my school reading and writing. Bob Snider had a song about morons called What an Idiot he Is and during Gloria’s reading I found myself experiencing one of his verses “well I see him everywhere I go and he gives me a pain, when I’m in the movie theatre he will rattle cellophane”.
