I passed a woman and a man looking confused before the big map by the dog path in High Park. I asked if they were lost or needed help. She told him to go to me. I think they are Spanish. No English. It quickly became apparent we could not communicate. Then she showed pictures on her cellphone of the cherry blossoms. Either they wanted to see the cherry blossoms which happen only in April or they wanted to walk in that part of the park but I could not determine which they wanted. Then other people stopped to help and when they saw the picture started telling the first couple the cherry blossoms are over. I interrupted, explained they don’t speak English. The new people decided to let me finish what apparently I started. I used sign language to direct them south and west. When I said ten minutes that way and ten minutes the other way they seemed to know that word or else they just wanted to end the mess we were in but just before they turned to follow my directions the woman pulled something out of her knapsack. She assembled a flute and played a flourish for me and smiled. It was too cool how she knew we have that language in common.
