Some of the comments I plan on addressing since the survey was returned by the new students,

“I’m confused by the lack of infrastructure for supporting artists, specifically independent artists. As a fan of almost exclusively independent music when it comes to contemporary stuff, it baffles me that I still constantly hear stories of (what I think are) relatively successful indie bands barely scraping by.”

“The part that confuses me the most is how to get started. ​I assume I need to know the right people in order to make a career out of music. ​I imagine making these connections would be difficult.”

“I’ve learned a lot about the industry, through class, internships, and life experience. I think I have a good understanding about the way the industry functions, though it definitely freaks me out.”
