A student asked me what I thought of the 1980s. I didn’t know how to answer her. I said when you are in your twenties, and wherever one is in their 20s it has a unique colour and sound and perhaps smell. That’s how each decade of life has been for me. I know a lot more about listening to people. Back then I did not hear what people had to say so well. Sometimes I try listening to people as if I am going to take their side no matter what they say, as if their view is all that’s important. It’s a improvisational exercise, where you only support what you hear from the other player. It requires having the memory to remind yourself maybe you don’t know anything at all.

Hm. Good idea. I’ll try it.
