Occasionally, over the years I Googled John’s name but not much came up. I found him a few weeks ago through someone else. He owns a restaurant which all these years I drove by when visiting my mother. It was wonderful to meet him again, there he was walking between tables when I entered, being himself fifty years later. The pleasure and surrealism can’t be shared unless it’s happened to you too. Four boys in a basement jamming, three on guitar, one on drums, while upstairs the drummer’s father plays poker with Kurt Winters – from the Guess Who! It’s amazing to be playing music and be so close to a real recording artist. We all can play Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry. Soon we will start to smoke hash and hot knife it. We will be the coolest boys in grade eight.
