It was Sidney Poitier’s birthday and I put on To Sir with Love. Such a cool sounding song but even cooler when I explored it pianistically. In the key of A. It goes from the one to the two major [very nice] then shifts down a semi tone for the second half of the verse. Very unexpected move to modulate down a semitone in the verse. From there the chorus builds into the two major [B], then starts over in A. A pop adventure. I wonder if the creators were motivated to make these changes intellectually or if it was all intuitive. My guess is they were nerds being nerds.
