recording day 2

The second day in Stockholm studio had a new cast of characters. Two guys playing upright bass – two upright basses. Is that not nuts? A saxophone, English horn, Trumpet, Violin and the same drummer and guitarist from day before. Again, I tried to make things work through off the top free playing. I think the yesterday’s ensemble sounded better but you never know for certain until you listen again after hours, days or weeks pass. Listen with ears that do not remember the things that seemed as though they would be remembered indelibly. I bought cooked beets and tofu and spilled a bit by the fridge. Then I thought everyone will think it was a pool of blood. I cleaned it quickly. Crisis averted. Karl brought me a vegan sandwich. A bun with cucumbers. He’s kind but I’m reminded of Dan the British vegetarian who road managed Blue Rodeo. At a dinner party put on by John Caton’s father, Dan was given a stalk of celery for dinner. It’s better to leave us to our own devices.
