A few weeks after John Lennon was murdered and much of the world was in shock I clearly remember the surprise of the sudden appearance in record stores of a 45 by Roxy Music with the words “A Tribute” – a cover Jealous Guy. So much more meaningful than the non stop news cycle about the murderer or the grieving Beatle fans. Loved Bryan Ferry for that.
Many tribute songs emerged over the years, the one I like most is by Estonian band – Ruja. Maybe because English isn’t their first language they nail the sort of primitive raw thing John Lennon sometimes did so perfectly. “You’re in our hearts we don’t leave your parts”
Lennon, Mister Lennon how can you feel my pain
Lennon, Mister Lennon then are you going away
Lennon, Mister Lennon but i promise you to play
You’re in our hearts we don’t leave your parts
You’re in my brain you remain
In the same way i will play your game again
Lennon, Mister Lennon so i said my god is gone
You’re in our hearts we don’t leave your parts
You’re in my brain you remain
In the way i will play your game again
