Somewhere near the Pinawa Manitoba 4th way music school, improvising students are divided into pairs. Instructor says “we’re going to practise listening”. Then A’s are instructed to tell B’s about their family and B’s are instructed to listen.
Later teacher asks the A’s, when B’s heard them did they offer any other information? All the A’s answer in the affirmative, said the B’s offered something usually about their families too.
Then the instructor says to the B’s let’s try listening again. A’s tell B’s about your instrument but this time B’s try to listen to your partner and if you find you have a need to talk about yourself don’t, it’s about listening.
